If I had an iphone
I would probably put up an INSTAGRAM of my sad failed cookies to go along with this post. But I dont have an iphone so… just imagine some sad, formless blobs on a cookie sheet.
It was my first attempt at baking without a recipe. I foolishly got so pridefully confident in my own ability, that I threw out the wise counsel of allrecipes.com and went ahead on my own wisdom. “How hard...

What does love look like?
Love always looks like something. Love is conceptually simple but incredibly difficult to carry out. It is mostly subtle and therefore can easily be missed. But the opportunities are plentiful. Love looks like obedience. Love looks like smiling at strangers as they walk busily by and catching them off guard with a “hello!” or a “good morning!” Love looks like stopping for...

Uh oh. Its 11:30 pm, on my last day of “break” at home and I just sent out my last ministry-related email of the day. I realize that I’ve spent the whole day working on church related stuff. Hope this doesn’t categorize me as a workaholic. Day one as intern…begins?

thats not my name
Apparently it’s really difficult for children to pronounce my name. The different variations of names the kids at work call me:
Monwella
Manjella
Domwella
and my personal favorite, “Willis” (Im guessing its a combination of Phyllis and my name)
and some kids just straight up call me Pauline sometimes -___-;
sigh…im gonna miss them so much!! T.T

Lets be honest
God, lets just be honest here. I dont really have another choice. And what have I to lose here? I might as well go all the way now. God, lets just be honest here. I’ve already lost everything. So what have I left to give? A little pleasure? But, lets just be honest here, it’s not that pleasurable anyway. Only You are.

God is moving in Hollywood, even in the most unlikely of places.
At a recent charity event hosted by Oprah, the presence of the Lord suddenly fell upon Gospel singers from both old and new generations, as spontaneous songs of worship broke out, and the power of the Holy Spirit brought…

What I learned this past week, in a nutshell
I was debating whether to post about my time in Kenya, and if so, how would I describe it? How would I even begin to put into English words, the things I experienced, learned, felt, encountered? But then as I read this devotional today, I felt it summed up everything quite nicely for me. This was pretty much the theme of what I learned in Kenya/London: how to be thankful and worshipful in the...

Countercultural life
From a blog I follow called “Becoming Minimalist.” Pretty insightful for a secular piece…
Are there steps that we can take to live countercultural lives?
First, we can admit that there must be more. We can come to a point where we realize that there is more to life than what the world is peddling. We admit that we have foolishly bought what the world is selling… and our...

Psalm 34:8 Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. NIV
Notice that first word, taste: “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” You realize, of course, that we are endowed with five physical senses: sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. What is it that’s distinctive about the sense of taste? I’ll tell you one...
Waiting season
(During Pentecost)
The disciples may have thought, “It’s been nine days. Maybe we should go and get some work. How are we going to eat? We’ve been hanging out here for nine days already and no visitation yet. Perhaps we didnt hear right…”
My thoughts exactly, disciples, my thoughts exactly…

Im literally getting too old for this
As I pull what is hopefully my last all nighter EVER for a project in college, I sadly realize that I am actually running out of juice. My youthful roommate Emily watches and mocks me as I struggle to stay alive, let alone alert, to finish my final project which is due in a few hours time. I can’t believe I knocked out for the past two hours… It is now 4 am, I wake up confused at what...
